Israel must probe latest ‘targeted killings’ in the Gaza Strip | Opinion

Aside from Shehadeh, this operation killed 13 civilians, including women and children. Around two weeks ago, Israel conducted “targeted killings” in the Gaza Strip, assassinating three senior members of Islamic Jihad – Khalil Bahtini, who was the group’s commander for northern Gaza, as well as Jihad Ghanam and Tareq Izzeldeen. Aside from these three senior officials, the operation also killed 10 civilians, including Bahtini’s wife and 4-year-old daughter, Ghanam’s wife and two of his children, and two of Izzeldeen’s children. How did these norms vanish as if they never existed when senior political and military officials decided to carry out the latest operation? Just like the Shehadeh case, the operation against the Islamic Jihad officials demands a deep moral and societal reckoning.
